The Aquatics Manager will contribute to the vision, mission, and values of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation by coordinating and implementing safe, quality aquatics programs for JCC members and guests with standards of excellence. The Aquatics Manager will oversee the operations of the JCC and Logan Campus swimming pools, supervising and scheduling of lifeguards and water safety instructors, Welcome Desk staff (Logan Campus only), and Snack Shack staff.
Duties Include
- Staff Supervision:
- Supervise, manage and develop all operations and staffing of aquatics programs including but not limited to swim lessons, swim team, lifeguard & WSI scheduling and certification, CPR/AED/First Aid certification, aquatics events, and pool scheduling
- Recruit, schedule, supervise, and evaluate employees for all aquatics programs
- Ensure that all staff has appropriate and updated certifications
- Administer payroll for the department
- Instruct monthly staff in-services while also continually training staff on safety precautions and communications skills
- Coordinate with swim team coaches and provide ongoing program support
- Program Development and Implementation:
- Perform lifeguard duties and teach lessons as needed, providing a minimum of 15 hours of direct teaching or lifeguarding hours per week during non-summer season
- Coordinate existing programs and assist with the development of new aquatics programs, utilizing the latest aquatics trends
- Assist Wellness & Aquatics Director in preparing and reviewing budgets, engaging in ongoing planning and business development to maximize revenue and mission
- Carry out routine evaluation of program efficacy and staff performance to ensure high quality and meaningful services for members and the general public
- Maintain a high level of applicable professional knowledge, including market analysis, and best practices for aquatics programming through ongoing professional education, investigation and development of relationships with colleagues and official entities
- Be familiar with and enact emergency protocols and other policies to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all members and guests, referring problems to appropriate staff as needed
- Coordinate with Marketing team to develop and advertise aquatics programs and services
- Coordinate with Program and Early Learning Center teams and Akiva Academy to provide high quality swim instruction for students
- Facility Operations:
- Provide and maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming pool and pool area environment
- Coordinate with Facilities and Maintenance team to ensure a high level of cleanliness and appropriate maintenance of pool facilities and equipment
- Coordinate with Operations team in scheduling, contracts, and managing pool rentals for swim clubs, teams, and community organizations
- Customer Service:
- Develop meaningful relationships with members through supervision of on-going activities and day-to-day interactions, ensuring member & guest satisfaction
- Respond to members’ concerns and ideas in a timely and professional manner
- Communicate and cooperate with colleagues and families as part of the Aquatics & Wellness team, including attending staff meetings as needed
- Adhere to all JCC and departmental policies
- Complete all additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements
Minimum BA/BS Recreation, Sports Management, Physical Education, and/or related field or comparable professional experience. Ideal candidate is a self starter with excellent customer service skills and a high level of organization, able to manage multiple projects at once. Candidate must be a high quality communicator who works well in a team environment. Must be proficient with Google Suite. Prior programming, instructing, administrative, budgeting and supervising experience preferred. Experience working with youth and adults and knowledge of pool operations, maintenance, and chemicals is a plus. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Certification Requirements
The following certifications need to be accomplished within the time stated below. The JCC will reimburse the employee for the cost of obtaining required certifications after the employee has worked for the JCC for at least three months and within three months of completion of the training and certification:
- Lifeguard Certification (must have at time of hire)
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (must have at time of hire)
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification (within six months from date of hire)
- First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification (within six months from the date of hire)
