Join a dedicated and professional finance team at United Jewish Federation of Tidewater (UJFT), a local nonprofit committed to making a difference in the community. We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to play a key role in our organization's financial operations.
About the Role
As a Staff Accountant, you will manage accounts payable, assist with financial reporting, and contribute to special projects. Your attention to detail, ability to work independently, and proficiency with financial software will support the organization’s mission and enhance its financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, process, and distribute accounts payable check requests; handle related inquiries.
- Audit employee expenses to ensure compliance with company policies.
- Bill agencies for shared services, rent, and external usage.
- Reconcile café sales reports, perform weekly inventory checks, and file quarterly sales and use tax reports.
- Prepare journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and generate financial reports.
- Assist in preparing monthly and year-end financial statements, support variance analysis.
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in accounting or equivalent education/experience required.
- 1–3 years of experience in an accounting role.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with Great Plains software is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work both independently and collaboratively in a team.
- Experience with Great Plains accounting software is a plus.
