The Chief Development Officer (CDO) reports directly to the CEO and serves on the senior management team. The CDO will lead the expansion of a strategic, creative and resourceful development program that will affirm and celebrate the mission, impact, and future growth of the JCC. The CDO must be on a constant mission to strengthen the organization-wide culture of philanthropy, both public and private.
Responsibilities:
- Create an annual development plan and budget
- Participate in major institutional decision-making, especially as it relates to development, such as setting fundraising goals and integrating development strategies into the overall mission of the JCC
- Hire, train, supervise and lead the development team by providing ongoing feedback, actively coaching and mentoring, management of performance to goals and identifying targeted professional development opportunities
- Research potential and current funders, documenting pertinent information
- Identify new opportunities and support ongoing efforts in the attainment of grants from government, foundations, and corporate sources.
- Provide internal coordination of grant submissions
- Participate in the writing of grant applications, proposals, sponsorship packages, etc. on behalf of the JCC
- Establish strategies to approach government, corporate and private funders and develop creative ways of promoting the JCC's cases for support
- Play a key role in managing strategy for establishing and maintaining relationships with city and state government officials and increasing their understanding of and support for the JCC
- Participates in the planning and implementation of events and other activities to support the JCC's government relations goals, such as town halls, news conferences, site visits and meetings
- In collaboration with the Director of Individual Giving (DIG) set annual giving goals and develop strategy for all phases of the individual giving program including solicitation and stewardship of major donors
- Create engagement communications to improve conversion, retention, and lifetime value of donors and prospects
- Maintain accurate reports and dashboards
- Partner with DIG in planning and implementing successful special events and ensure proper follow-up
- Collaborate with the DIG, program leaders, and the marketing team to develop key storytelling opportunities to enhance fundraising efforts
- Supervise, mentor, and coach the director of the JCC's Sunrise Experience program, a year-round program providing summer camp and other year-round services to children with cancer and their siblings at no cost to the family, to ensure that programming, fundraising, and community engagement efforts are realized and amplified
- Serve on various JCC committees and coalitions including, but not limited to, Sunrise Advisory Committee, Golf Outing Committee, Bocce Committee, Weissglass Distinguished Leadership Committee, and Budget and Finance Committee
- Participate in JCC Board meetings

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years if experience in a position of similar complexity
- Excellent verbal and writing skills with demonstrated success in grant and proposal writing
- Ability to write exceptionally well and effectively communicate the mission, goals and needs of an organization to donors and funders, and to articulate complex ideas clearly, accurately, and concisely
- Ability to work effectively with people at all levels, both internally and externally
- Experience writing for a variety of audiences
- Must be able to adapt or modify plans, timeliness, or processes in response to changing circumstances
- Strong attention to detail and superior organizational skills
- Fundraising and event planning experience
- Experience in developing and cultivating corporate and foundation relationships
- Proficient computer and software knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.), including development database applications
- Must be fully vaccinated
Salary:
$95,000 - $105,000
