POSITION TITLE: Senior Associate Regional Director REPORTS TO: Deputy Regional Director SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assist in supervising program staff and interns, including contributing to their hiring, training and evaluation. May directly supervise one or more support staff. LOCATION: Central or Northern New Jersey (NYC Office attendance also required as well as travel throughout NJ)Grade/Class: Grade G, Exempt, PSA-Eligible

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Assist the Deputy Regional Director and Regional Director in planning, developing, and implementing advocacy initiatives, program activities and services in the community to advance ADL’s mission within New Jersey. Review and respond to bias incidents reported to ADL by New Jersey constituents. Assist the Deputy Regional Director and Regional Director in the administration of the office including office management, budget preparation and staff supervision where appropriate. Serve as back-up to the Deputy Regional Director as needed.
The Senior Associate Regional Director will be based out of New Jersey, as well as our NYC office. Travel within New Jersey on a regular basis is required, as well as travel within New York as needed. A residence in New Jersey is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
Primary:
- Provide routine general office management as a backup to the Deputy Regional Director and Regional Director.
- Assist in the Recruitment, development, and support of lay leadership and administrative staff at all levels including youth leadership programs. May mentor students or oversee mentors and interns.
- Respond to and help resolve for constituents the most complex or sensitive complaints of discrimination, antisemitic incidents and other civil rights issues. Conduct and oversee in-depth fact-finding research. Coordinate with community partners, clergy, schools and/or counsel as appropriate. Ensure that required reports are entered and maintained.
- Conduct outreach to Jewish and non-Jewish communities and constituents to educate community members and the public about ADL’s mission and reporting antisemitic incidents and hate crimes.
- Assist Deputy Regional Director and Regional Director in planning and implementing advocacy and legislative initiatives at the federal, state, and local levels to advance ADL’s mission within the assigned region.
- Develop and implement community outreach including initiatives and joint ventures with elected leaders and diverse interfaith and cross-cultural organizations active within the region.
- Implement ADL programs and projects, tailoring them to local community needs and issues. Manage education and human relations programming. Conduct training sessions as applicable regarding the above-listed initiatives.
- Provide staff support and programming to lay-led committees and boards as well as ADL events in New Jersey.
- Represent ADL and give speeches in a variety of forums to promote public awareness of ADL’s mission.
- Respond to inquiries from media and press outlets and from members of the public, demonstrating authoritative knowledge of ADL’s policies and positions and relevant local, national and world events. Read, monitor, and respond to media reports and opinion articles.
- Participate in government affairs activities, maintaining regular contact with New Jersey state and local officials as well as with Jewish communal leaders and community members. Advocate for ADL issues in state and local legislature.
- Monitor relevant civil rights lawsuits in the region and identify potential opportunities for involvement. Keep counsel informed of developments.
Secondary:
- Participate in fundraising events, cultivate potential donors, and assist in maintaining donor relationships.

Work Experience:
- Five to six years of progressively responsible human relations, legal or community service experience including program and operational management experience.
- Experience in public policy or advocacy related to bias, bigotry, racism, legal, legislative/government relations, civil rights advocacy, or antisemitism strongly preferred.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree plus additional related college courses or professional training. JD or equivalent Law Degree a plus but not required.
Work Environment:
- ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.
Compensation:
- This position has a salary range of $84,000 to $108,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
