Position: Volunteer Coordinator
Location: Portland, OR - This position offers flexibility to work remotely but requires regular on-site presence for meetings, events, and community engagement. While you won’t need to be in the office daily, you’ll be expected to attend in-person gatherings, collaborate with colleagues, and actively participate in community outreach. This hybrid arrangement combines the benefits of remote work with the essential in-person interactions that drive our mission forward.
Type: 0.5 FTE
Salary Range: $30-$40/hour
About Us: The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland (JFGP) is dedicated to enriching and sustaining Jewish life in Portland, OR, and around the world. We connect the community through social services, educational programs, and cultural events, and promote Jewish values and heritage. We are seeking a passionate and organized Volunteer Coordinator to join our team and enhance our volunteer programs.
The 2023 Portland Jewish Community Study identified volunteerism as an important gateway into the Jewish community and means of Jewish engagement. To develop the necessary opportunities and relationships to maximize this avenue the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland seeks to hire a part-time volunteer coordinator.
Their responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and manage the Federation’s hands-on (vs. board and committee) volunteers and volunteer activities. Examples include:
- Annual service days
- Monthly service days in conjunction with other organizations
- Ongoing volunteer teams/opportunities (e.g. Dignity Grows, etc.)
- Volunteer Opportunities
- Work closely with agency professionals to identify volunteer roles and opportunities
- Expand and create relationships with organizations with volunteer needs both within and beyond the organized Jewish community
- Development of different volunteer modalities–e.g. days of service, themed months of service, DIY/at-home service, that meet people interested in volunteering where they are.
- Coordinate with volunteerism professionals across the Greater Portland Jewish community for the purposes of collaboration, professional development, resource sharing, etc.
- Conduct a thorough assessment of existing volunteer opportunities and activities within and by the organized Jewish community to create a clearinghouse of resources useful to Jewish individuals and organizations.
- Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement
- Identify potential volunteer cohorts and develop plans to attract them to opportunities
- Develop a system for training, recognizing and thanking volunteers
- Collaborate with local and national organizations dedicated to volunteerism and community engagement to develop best practices for volunteer development and engagement.
- Provides information and referral to prospective volunteers for opportunities throughout the organized Jewish community and beyond.
- Identify key trends in volunteerism and collaborate with appropriate team members to meet those needs while maximizing the Jewish community’s role in those trends
Stakeholder Groups for the VC to engage:
- Jewish and non-Jewish Organizations that use volunteers
- Jewish Organizations that provide opportunities for their congregants, students, members
- Jewish individuals looking to volunteer
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience
- Familiarity with and sensitivity to Jewish identity (including its religious, ethical, cultural, and social values).
- Team-oriented
- Ability to handle multiple priorities at one time and meet deadlines
- Ability to take initiative, problem solve, and proactively move projects forward
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to effectively work with stakeholders to achieve outcomes in a timely manner
- Desire to work in a fast-paced, creative, entrepreneurial environment
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changes and shifting priorities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365
