PRIMARY FUNCTION:
A crucial member of the ADL Development team, the Senior Director, Institutional Giving leads the overall foundation and corporate donor strategy and pipeline, and implements organization-wide institutional donor solicitations, in addition to maintaining a personal portfolio of donors. The Senior Director leads a institutional team of institutional giving officers, grant writing professionals and corporate engagement officers who together support the donor solicitation and stewardship efforts and deepening the prospective donor pipeline Agency-wide. The Senior Director is a primary cultivation and solicitation lead or partner with executive staff on funding to support ADL’s organizational funding priorities and initiatives.
Responsibilities
Primary:
- Lead the Institutional Giving team, including Institutional Giving Officers handling foundation and corporate relations, grant writers, and a coordinator.
- Set and implement overall strategy on foundation and corporate renewals, new solicitations, reporting, and communications.
- Support Director, Institutional Giving in guiding the Institutional Giving Officers on their individual portfolios and geographic responsibilities, supporting them to meet their deadlines (new solicitations and renewals) and ensure the timely updating of prospect research, moves management, etc.
- Oversee development of high-quality grant proposal and reporting content across all program areas of ADL.
- Develop and advance agency-wide best practices for cultivating and stewarding foundation relationships and engaging corporations, foregrounding a culture of philanthropy.
- Oversee the design and implementation of new fundraising packages to support major and principal gift solicitations and grant proposals to advance ADL priority programs and increase unrestricted support.
- Work in partnership with SVPs to devise strategies to use ADL programs to attract general operating support and understand their needs and fundraising goals.
- Play an external facing role with senior leadership and donors through meetings, telephone calls, and preparing briefing materials including proposals and prospect profiles for donor meetings.
- Drive efforts to ensure that fundraisers have accurate budget and financial information to share with donors.
- Maintain a personal portfolio of regional and national principal institutional donors with specific financial goals, outreach and solicitation strategies and stewardship.
- Provide analysis on giving patterns and impact on ADL revenue.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the VP.
Qualifications
Skills:
- Ability to manage a team and support them in achieving their goals.
- Superior organizational and administrative skills including the ability to multi-task.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written presentation skills.
- Demonstrated analytical skills related to complex donor research.
- Background in one or more areas: Jewish communal programs, civil rights, immigrant rights, education, law enforcement, or extremism/terrorism.
- Knowledge of techniques and methodologies of donor and prospect research using traditional print and on-line sources with particular focus on special requirements of donor/prospect research.
- Ability to think strategically, analytically, and creatively.
- Proficiency in use of on-line research tools including Wealth Engine, Foundation Directory Online and other online and print tools and publications.
- Knowledge of data mining tools. Proficiency as well with word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Knowledge of CRM and donor database systems, particularly Salesforce, preferred.
- Ability to work with highly sensitive, confidential information.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 7 –10 years of experience in donor and prospect research and grant writing in a not-for-profit fundraising environment.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent experience required.
Work Environment:
- ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.
Compensation:
- This position has a salary range of $109,000 to $189,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
