PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Manager, Stewardship Communications writes, edits, and manages the creation of clear, compelling materials for donor cultivation, solicitation, events and stewardship. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and versatile writer with a proclivity toward active language, a keen attention to detail, and an eye for compelling design. This role works in collaboration with the full stewardship and events team, and functions as the primary contact with ADL’s Brand & Marketing team.
Responsibilities
Primary:
- Manage the development and delivery of effective donor cultivation and stewardship materials, including defining strategic goals, outlining creative briefs, drafting content, managing design development, and ensuring thorough and timely edits and approvals.
- Research and write comprehensive impact reports for donors of $25k+ and endowment donors in partnership with stewardship team members.
- Prepare segmented and targeted communications, updates, and crisis communications for ADL Frontline program members.
- Draft original content including emails, talking points, impact stories, and marketing copy we requested.
- Edit and re-write communications and other materials generated by ADL’s development, marketing and communications staff as needed to suit targeted
- Create templated donor comms-focused fundraiser resources, including thank you cards, holiday cards and messages, anniversary greetings, etc.
- Develop and maintain an accessible and curated library of ADL stewardship content, materials, and talking points.
- Partner with event-focused team members to deliver templated event invitations, solicitations, acknowledgments, correspondence and remarks as needed.
- Manage copywriting and design vendors as needed.
- Create fresh and innovative copy for standard donor communications including acknowledgments, celebration of life cycle events, career achievements, and condolences.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of ADL programs and priorities and understand how they advance ADL’s mission.
Qualifications
Skills:
- Exceptional writing skills with the ability to write in different voices and styles as needed. Ability to write formally and informally required.
- Detail-oriented proofreader with experience giving and receiving constructive feedback.
- Ability to collaborate with staff and senior leadership, respond to multiple points of view, find consensus, and effectively communicate the organization’s vision.
- Understanding of basic design principals and ability to communicate design and materials needs to creative teams.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently to move projects forward on deadline.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully under pressure, understand and follow policies and procedures, and process feedback into revisions.
- Results-oriented with a positive and calm attitude and an inclination to view problems as challenges and enjoy finding solutions.
- Commitment to transparency, accountability, and direct communication.
- Technical competence is required. Marketing Cloud experience welcome. Comfort in learning and utilizing new technology is essential.
- Sound judgment and sensitivity to highly confidential information.
- Comfort building relationships with and collaborating with colleagues remotely across the country is essential.

Work Experience:
- Professional writing experience in an organization or company generating products intended for multiple audiences.
- Demonstrable experience writing communications of a highly relational nature, both one-to-one and for mass audiences.
- Experience managing the full lifecycle of material creation from ideation through drafting and design, to review and delivery.
- Experience writing impact stories desired.
- Proven track record in developing templated resources.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related discipline, or equivalent work experience required.
Work Environment:
- ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.
Compensation:
- This position has a salary range of $54,000 to $92,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
