Substitute Preschool Teacher
About Kane Street Kids
Kane Street Kids is a progressive, intimate Jewish preschool in Cobble Hill dedicated to building a community where all children and families feel safe and connected. We welcome families and teachers from both Jewish and non-Jewish backgrounds; everyone belongs here.
About the position
Kane Street Kids seeks qualified substitute teacher candidates to be placed on our roster for part-time hourly work. We usually call upon subs 1-3 times a week. Sub hours can range from 8:45am-3:30pm, depending on the class needing coverage, but we most often need subs between 8:45am-12pm. Those with varied schedules or morning-only availability are still encouraged to apply. Kane Street Kids employs substitute teachers throughout the school year, so we prefer to meet with candidates who have extended availability through at least March.
Responsibilities
Substitute teachers will work in a classroom with 1-2 other KSK teachers. Subs assist and support KSK teachers however needed, often including:
- Setup/cleanup of activities/snacks

- Supporting children needing extra attention
- Ensuring a smooth overall run-of-day
- Substitute teachers may be asked to support in diaper changing in our 2s and 3s classrooms
Substitute teachers are not responsible for lesson planning or curriculum design but may be asked to support in the creation/distribution of materials. Substitute teachers will not be asked to communicate with parents/caregivers except in rare and extenuating circumstances.
Subs covering for 6 hours or more will be given a minimum 30 minute unpaid lunch break in accordance with NYS law.
All substitute teachers will need to complete online trainings in health and safety and other topics, consent to a background check and fingerprinting through the DOHMH, and submit a completed health form and other forms for their files. Files must be complete before you may begin working in the classroom.
