Position Summary :
The Director of Community Advocacy and Engagement supports the Alliance's public policy and advocacy goals, advances the antihate and countering antisemitism agendas, provides education around the intersection of Judaism and community building, fosters conversation and engages other historically marginalized communities to increase capacity for shared goals, and builds bridges between multiple diverse populations. With close insight from the Community Relations Committee of the Board, this position engages with stakeholders from across communities, to advance shared goals of advocacy, education, activism, and partnership. The Director is responsible for leading the implementation of programmatic priorities focusing on issues related to antisemitism, domestic policy, social and economic justice, and interfaith/intergroup relations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Community Advocacy
- Foster collaborative relationships based on mutual understanding and respect with other communities and groups to build and engage in coalitions on areas of common concern and priorities.
- Develop relationships with elected officials at the local, state, and federal level.
- Represent the Jewish Alliance and Jewish stakeholders at key non-Jewish coalition groups and support legislative priorities emerging from those groups.
- Maintain strong relationships and cultivate new partnerships with diverse stakeholders to enhance our bridge-building work between the Jewish and non-Jewish communities.
- Have a proven track record of community engagement and activism for causes they care about.
Antisemitism and Anti-Hat e
- Work with the Alliance's Chief Strategy Officer to build and execute the organization's strategy to combat antisemitism.
- Manage on-going anti-hate agenda through relationship development with key stakeholders, anchoring conversations in action through training, programming and other collaborative events.
- Engage elected officials and other civic leaders on legislative issues specific to the Jewish community.
- Respond to school and work-based antisemitism reports including intake, preparing recommended next steps, and facilitating stakeholder engagement on the issues.
- Operationalize training/workshops across the region to educate non-Jewish community members and leaders about the Jewish community and modern antisemitism, including outreach to municipal offices, public libraries, community centers, social service agencies, faith communities.
- Be a strategic problem solver who can identify a common cause amongst diverse groups of people and organize those communities together to increase capacity and develop shared goals.
Organizational Leadership :
- Represent the Jewish Alliance around key national Jewish organizational conversations on issues related to antisemitism and public policy.
- With the Chief Strategy Officer, work closely with the volunteer leadership of the Community Relations Council of the Board of Directors
- Draft written responses, articles, speaking notes and other collateral related to issue areas to support media inquiries , educational opportunities and engagement .
Qualifications and Success Factors :
- Bachelor's Degree required .
- Knowledge of current events , and understanding of Judaism, Jewish community , Israel and related issues .
- Commitment to representing the needs of a broad, diverse Jewish community .
- Ability to navigate complicated or stressful situations with diplomacy, tact, and equanimity
- Understanding of the dynamics and connections of diverse Jewish stakeholders to Israel, and ability to communicate with sophistication and nuance on related issues
- Knowledge and understanding of government affairs, legislative processes and advocacy
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Experience working with volunteer leaders and diverse constituencies to develop consensus
- Must be able to submit to pre-employment screening to include a national background check
- Must be able to work occasional off-shift hours including nights and weekends, as needed.
Work Environment:
This role will require you to be in the office 4 days a week, with the option of one remote day after the initial review period. This role will require occasional nights and weekends. The Director will need access to reliable transportation to ensure travel across the Greater Rhode Island area.
