Description
Position Summary:
The Table Tennis Instructor is responsible for delivering professional and engaging small group, private & semi-private Table Tennis classes in addition to one off workshops. Position offers $20.00 to $25.00 per hour depending on experience.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Teach group and private/semi-private Table Tennis lessons to beginner through advanced Table Tennis students.
- Modify Table Tennis lessons to adapt to each students age, level and to the best of your ability, temperament.
- Maintain timeliness with each Table Tennis lesson.
- Gather all Table Tennis lesson equipment needed before the start of the class, including set up of the table and net if needed.
- Put away Table Tennis lesson equipment at the end of the lessons.
- Caution participants regarding safe vs. unsafe behaviors; enforce all safety protocols.
- Complete accident reports thoroughly if accidents occur and follow protocol outlined in Staff Manual.
- Substitute for coworkers as needed.
- Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet scheduling needs.
- Support the emotional and social wellbeing of Table Tennis students through positive behavior management and supportive interactions.
- Follow all emergency procedures at the SJCC.
- Attend required staff training and meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:

Experience
- Table Tennis playing experience.
- Coaching/teaching experience.
- Experience working with people of all ages.
Training And Certifications
- Current CPR/AED Certification (Adult and Pediatric), or willing to complete course by required deadline(s).
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Ability to play Table Tennis and teach Table Tennis lessons for all ages and levels.
- Ability to teach correct technique.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of relevant safety practices.
- Ability to coach and empower Table Tennis students.
- Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with colleagues and SJCC guests.
- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team setting.
- Ability to exercise good judgment.
Additional Employment Requirements
- Satisfactorily pass a criminal background check.

Physical Demands: To perform the job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, walk, swim, paddle, and stand. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, climb, balance, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to lift, push, and/or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Environmental Conditions: The work is frequently performed around or in a fitness center or gymnasium, with a moderate noise level.
