Principal Responsibilities:
The Place : Surprise Lake Camp . The oldest Jewish Sleepaway Camp is the USA! We are a non -profit organization located in the Hudson Valley of New York . We create fun, meaningful, inclusive, and joyful experiences through educational, social, cultural, spiritual, fitness and wellness programs.
Surprise Lake Camp is an overnight camp for children entering grades K -1 0 .
The Job: Seeking an experienced Jewish camp professional with a passion for camping to serve as Assistant Director. As a member of a small year-round staff, you will be a thoughtful and creative leader as well as a key player in a hard-working team
.
This position is primarily remote from September to May. Camp is located in Cold Spring NY where you will live during the season. As the Assistant Director, you should expect to travel as a representative of the camp, including local and regional events, professional development conferences, and recruiting trips for both staff and campers. Travel will be on weekdays , weekends and may include i nternational travel .

Minimum Qualifications:
Year-Round Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Program Calendar
- Assist with direct recruitment (ex: camp presentations, ambassador meetings, family visits, parent calls)
- Plan and implement year-round/off-season programming, including assisting with camper engagement and recruitment opportunities
- Assist with seasonal staff hiring process including; position development, recruitment, hiring, and onboarding
- Represent camp at conferences, events, and meetings
Summer Responsibilities:
- Assist Camp Director in managing and overseeing the day-to- day operation of camp
- Assist in developing and lead ing the pre-camp staff orientation program (Staff Week), as well as ongoing trainings and staff evaluations
- Assist with the creation and implementation of general camp program and supervision of program staff
- Manage camper and staff arrivals and departures, including airport pick-up and drop-off
The Essentials:
- Undergraduate degree required
- 2+ years of professional experience in a leadership position working with children and staff (in camp or school setting)
- Experience supervising a large group of people
- Strong tr ack record of recruitment of children and staff
- An understanding of Judaism and the culture
- Passion for and/or interest in camping and the valuable life lessons that come from such involvement
- Highly proficient with standard office software and various online media platforms, and the ability to learn new systems adeptly
- Excellent public speaking and salesmanship; ability to communicate clearly and concisely to both children and parents
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and strong work ethic
- Ability to work as both part of a team and independently
- Demonstrated ability to develop new initiatives from the ground up
- Willingness to take on any necessary roles and responsibilities to accomplish a task
- Ability to work long "camp hours" while camp is in season

Salary:
$55,000 - $65,000
