A Day Camp Counselor provides leadership guidance and supervision for a group of campers, ensuring a quality experience for children and parents. They act as role models and good examples, team players, and are respectful and caring individuals who create positive, nurturing relationships with children. A Day Camp Counselor is enthusiastic, organized, a leader, and upbeat. Camp runs in July and August, with training dates in late June and 2 late nights or overnights, depending on the assigned camp group, over the summer.
Responsibilities And Duties
Camp day-to-day
- Serve as a role model for campers and staff
- Establish and monitor a positive group environment
- Help campers maintain a positive attitude throughout the camp day
- Ensure campers' daily health and wellness, specifically hydration and regular bathroom visits
- Maintain bunk backpack with all necessary supplies
- Participate in all activities
Activity planning
- Help generate ideas for bunk activities
- Prepare for and participate in all bunk activities
- Communicate with specialists/instructors as to how you can best support them
Camper supervision and written work
- Help to mediate conflicts between campers
- Communicate issues between campers or between staff to the Head Counselor
- Assist the Head Counselor in preparing for activities and written work (camper portraits in 4th week of session; newsletters every week)
Qualifications
16+ years old
Anyone under 18 is required to obtain working papers
