The JCC Rainbow Day Camp is currently hiring energetic, passionate and hard-working individuals as Lifeguard and Swim Instructors. I
n summer 2025, Lifeguards will work Monday, June 9th to Friday, August 15. Additional training will be provided prior to the camp season.
The Albert and Ann Deshur JCC Rainbow Day Camp is an inclusive summer camp, guided by Jewish values, for children and teens that fosters personal development, friendship and community. Led by an experienced and nurturing staff on over 100 picturesque acres, campers safely play and learn through a variety of enriching activities and innovative programs. Position Summary A Lifeguard is responsible for supervising the aquatics area to prevent accidents, assist swimmers, and respond to emergencies. The incumbent will create a safe, enjoyable and positive atmosphere that promotes camper safety. The Lifeguard will oversee multiple activities including free swim, boating, and the inflatable obstacle course.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintain constant surveillance of the pool and agam (pond) areas
- Know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately
- Perform first aid when necessary and complete appropriate incident/accident reports
- Know, understand, and consistently communicate policies and guidelines for waterfronts
- Enforce stoplight system for camper safety in the water
- Participate in camp activities
- Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
- Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
- Communicate with camp director about participant’s experiences (positive and negative).
- Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times
- Participation in activities such as spirit days, camp programs and songs.
- Ability to contribute to the Rainbow Day Camp team through spirit, enthusiasm and willingness to learn

Qualifications -- Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Requirements (KSAs)
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Current lifeguard certification and First Aid, CPR/AED OR Proper completion of in-house certification course
- Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities
- Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Willingness to have fun and encourage community at camp.
- Ability to recognize swimmers who may need assistance
- Ability to recognize and remedy hazardous/dangerous situations
- Ability to communicate and work with diverse groups and different ages
- Dedicated to camper safety and the mission and philosophy of JCC Rainbow Day Camp
Physical Demands:
- The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
- Must be able to remain alert with no lapses of consciousness in a warm environment with air temperatures of 80 degrees or higher.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to hear noises and distress signals.
- Observe all areas of the pool and agam with clear vision.
- Perform all needed rescues and survival skills.
- Be able to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue, including swimming quickly, supporting adult body weight while swimming as far as 50 feet, and removing adult body weight from the pool.
- Communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.

Environmental conditions include working indoors and outdoors and interacting with hundreds of children and adults daily
