PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Reporting to the Vice President Donor Experience & Philanthropic Services, the Senior Director, Strategy, Analytics & Prospect Research is the lead expert in using donor data to discover insights, patterns or trends, and identifying areas of opportunity for ADL Development. As a member of the ADL Development leadership team, the Senior Director acts as a strategic partner to the Senior Vice President of Development and the Vice Presidents of Philanthropic Engagement and Donor Experience & Philanthropic Services to achieve fundraising and engagement objectives and maximize results. This role oversees ADL’s Development’s data collection and reporting processes to ensure ADL has real-time data about market opportunities, tracking and reporting on fundraising outputs and outcomes, as well as oversees the donor research and donor intelligence strategy for ADL Development. The Senior Director will support data informed decision making, fundraising strategy, and annual planning in partnership with the Senior Vice President and Vice Presidents. The Senior Director oversees a team that is crucial to advancing ADL's mission by utilizing data to drive fundraising success and support the organization's vital programs and initiatives.
Responsibilities
Primary:
- Serve as a strategic partner to leadership by developing and implementing a comprehensive data and analytics strategy aligned with ADL's goals and objectives. This includes working with key leaders to identify key performance indicators, establish benchmarks, and outline strategies to leverage data for improved decision-making, increased fundraising outcomes, and organizational alignment.
- Provide actionable recommendations on donor intelligence, prospect management, engagement measurement, pipeline development, key performance indicators, activity forecasting, benchmarking, and budget and staff allocation.
- Assess and optimize the quality of development data for reporting and analysis.
- Provide strategic guidance to the Director, Prospect Research to ensure close alignment between research and data analysis. Foster a culture of data literacy within ADL Development, educating stakeholders on data use.
- Analyze data to inform decision-making on donor behaviors, fundraising capacity, staff allocation, engagement measures, marketing results, and pipeline forecasting.
- Provide metrics to support strategic prospect management and track prospect activity while increasing the qualified prospect pool.
- Improve and streamline processes regarding data flow and quality to enhance data accuracy, viability, and value.
- Collaborate with end users to identify needs and opportunities for improved data management and delivery through interactive real-time dashboards and key performance indicators using tools such Experience Tableau, Power BI, Apsona or newly identified BI tools.
- Leverage advanced data analysis to assess fundraiser portfolios, ensuring they are robust and supported by newly identified prospective donors.
- Manage and measure activity dashboards for ADL Development.
- Work closely with the Development Salesforce team and ADL's technology team to ensure these systems and processes are aligned and working together seamlessly.
- Evaluate and assess the impact of development activities, recommending strategies to increase productivity and impact.
- Support budgeting and financial projections planning processes.
Qualifications
Skills:
- Well-honed analytical skills, with proficiency in statistical analysis, data modeling, and data visualization techniques.
- Exceptional ability to analyze data, articulate findings, and translate them into strategies.
- Build compelling narratives based on complex data and analytics to effectively influence and inform targeted audiences.
- Experience in developing or leading comprehensive strategic planning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong collegiality and ability to establish collaborative professional relationships Ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Discretion with highly sensitive and confidential information.
- Expertise in working with databases and building reports.
- Ability to synthesize information and make recommendations.

Work Experience:
- The ideal candidate has significant years of leadership experience in institutional research or data analysis, preferably in a sophisticated development environment.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing data strategies to drive business outcomes.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in information technology/computer science, business analytics, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Master's degree preferred.
Work Environment:
- Flexibility to work evening and weekends required.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly (up to 50% of time).
- ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.
Compensation:
- This position has a salary range of $109,000 to $189,000 This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
