Our client is a vibrant religious community dedicated to serving the spiritual, educational and social needs of their members. They are seeking a talented and experienced Controller to join their team.
The Controller will play a pivotal role in the financial health of the religious community and foundation. This position will oversee all accounting functions, prepare financial statements and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, particularly in the non-profit sector, and be able to effectively communicate with various stakeholders.
Controller Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll
- Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements
- Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards and regulations, including GAAP and 990 filings
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures
- Manage financial risk and identify opportunities for cost savings
- Work closely with the executive director and board of directors to provide financial advice and support
- Manage the synagogue's federal grant for security
Controller Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance or other Business Related Field
- CPA preferred
- 5+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit organization
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including GAAP
- Experience with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
