PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Editorial Assistant (COE) will support the COE Editorial team, under the direction of the Sr. Editor while working closely with other members of the Editorial team. Additionally, this person will work closely with COE staff to track and creatively convey key findings about extremism, antisemitism and hate.
Responsibilities
Primary:
- Draft and copyedit updates to critical COE databases for Audit, Campus Report, etc.
- Draft COE impact/success stories (for donors and media) with input from COE team.
- Draft and edit COE social media content for a range of platforms.
- Write/co-author COE newsletters.
- Run the Clearance/approvals process for COE pieces.
- Update COE content on multiple platforms.
- Post COE content (articles, Glossary entries, etc.) to CMS (Drupal).
- Provide editing and writing support to COE team.
Secondary:
- Track media mentions of COE staff.
- Draft reports on extremist activity as needed.
Qualifications
Skills/Attributes:
- Excellent writing and editing skills, able to perform under tight deadlines.
- Able to maintain calm under pressure.
- Able to work quickly and accurately on deadline.
- Working knowledge of Chicago style.
- Passion for collaboration and collective success.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Proven diplomatic and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to bring projects full circle and able to juggle multiple requests.
- Sense of humor.
Work Experience:
- The ideal candidate has demonstrable reporting, writing and editing experience at a news organization or similarly content-oriented workplace.
- Previous experience on a range of extremism-related topics preferred.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or related field, or equivalent experience required.
Work Environment:
- ADL is a hybrid environment, this role may require 3 days in the office.
Compensation:
- This position has a salary range of $42,000 to $60,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
