PRIMARY FUNCTION:
A key member of the litigation team, this role involves working directly with the Senior Director of National Litgation and Associate Counsels, and providing administrative and legal case support in a fast paced and dynamic environment. This person will organize and maintain case files, help manage caseload requirements, timelines, and help oversee the entire lifecycle of legal cases. The Legal Case Manager conducts legal research, drafts case summaries, and reviews documents for compliance with legal requirements. This role will also liaise with clients, co-counsel and courts, and coordinate workflow with other ADL departments. The Case Manager is responsible for ensuring case details are managed and organized.
Responsibilities
Primary:
- Assist attorneys with all aspects of case management, including docketing deadlines, and coordinating between attorneys, staff, and outside firms and non-profit partners to manage ADL’s case load, present case summaries/updates, and ensure that all deadlines are met.
- Organize and maintain all case files and all engagement and closure notices, including through ADL’s national CALL helpline.
- Conduct legal research to obtain necessary documentation from clients, and review legal documents to ensure adherence to all legal requirements.
- Communicate case status with clients and outside counsel as requested.
- Assist in maintaining schedules and confirming meetings for ADL Associate Counsels.
- Assist the Department in Continuing Legal Education administrative requirements for ADL panel presentations.
Qualifications
Skills:
- Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet presentation, and case management software.
- Ability to learn or experience in conducting legal research or reviewing legal documents.
- Self-starter with the ability to effectively manage multiple matters at once.
- Superior organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Highly effective problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills; confident interacting across all levels of the organization and with external constituents.
Work Experience:
- The ideal candidate has significant experience working in a professional office, including several years as paralegal, legal secretary, or legal assistant at a law firm or non-profit.
- Previous case management process experience is strongly preferred.
Education:
- An Associate’s degree or equivalent experience is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Work Environment:
- ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.
Compensation:
- This position has a salary range of $75,000 to $90,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
