About j Camp
J Camp - the Jewish Community Center Day Camp, offers a summer full of adventure, new activities and ultimate camp fun! Boys and girls entering 1st-8th grade register for weekly sessions June 3 – August 8.
Camp activities include games, crafts, science, sports, archery, swimming, swim lessons, Jewish and Israeli culture, field trips, and special events. Specialty camps offer specific skill development through art projects, theatrical productions, triathlon training, culinary projects, engineering activities, and basketball, soccer, baseball and football training and drills. Older youth programming specifically focuses on leadership development and community service.
You will be joining a staff that is caring, friendly, and skilled in providing a great summer experience. You will be able to develop job skills such as problem solving, negotiating, listening, flexibility, and creativity.
J Camp is accredited by the American Camp Association and licensed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. We work hard to meet the standards of these organizations because we are committed to providing a safe and positive environment where children are challenged and supported.
J Camp Schedule And Required Training
We are hiring staff to work J Camp between May 27-August 1, with an option to work an additional week August 4-8. Staff work shifts between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Staff Orientation will be held May 27- 30 and portions are required for all staff.
J Camp 2025 Early Signing Bonus
Go through the hiring process and make a commitment to work for J Camp by March 14th (Sign your J Camp Offer Letter) and earn up to a $250 Hiring Bonus!
Early Signing Bonus Details
- Paid to you at the conclusion of the summer.
J Camp Staff committing to and working for J Camp between
320 – 400 hours during the summer = $250 Bonus
260 – 319 hours during the summer = $200 Bonus
180-259 hours during the summer = $150 Bonus
100-179 hours during the summer = $100 Bonus
Requirements
AVAILABLE STAFF POSITIONS J CAMP 2025
Senior Counselors
Must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate or older. Salary $15.50-17.50 per hour, depending on qualifications.
- Responsible for the health and safety of campers. Manages individual and group behaviors.
- Works directly with campers to lead fun, age-appropriate programming and uses positive teaching techniques.
- Oversees all aspects of the camper group schedule and programs. Creates and carries out activity plans. Supervises youth at all activities including the pool and on field trips. Maintains attendance, and swim records.
- Works with Camp Director to create and implement behavior management plans.
- Leads or assists with all camp special activities. Attends staff trainings, staff meetings.
Junior Counselors
Must be at least 16 years old and entering 11th-12 grade. Salary $13.50-14.50 per hour.
- Assists Senior Counselor in creating activity plans, leading group activities, and recordkeeping.
- Actively works with and supervises campers. Assists with teaching activities and pool supervision.
- Assists with maintaining records such as attendance and swimming records.
- Assists with monitoring the health and safety of campers. Helps to manage behaviors.
- Attends orientation, staff meetings, and assigned Undernight programs.
Ma’asim Tovim Senior Counselors
Must be 21 years of age or older. Must have a valid driver’s license. All Ma’asim Tovim staff will be required to have a clean driving record. Salary $16.50-17.50/hour depending on qualifications.
- Responsible for the health and safety of campers.
- Oversees all aspects of camper group schedule and programs. Creates and carries out activity plans.
- Drives campers to program sites and maintains cleanliness of 15-passenger van.
- Attends orientation, staff meetings and assists with special camp activities.
- Works with Camp Director to create and implement behavior management plans.
Camp Directors and Assistant Directors
Preference to those 21 years of age or older. Preference to those with previous camp or youth programming experience. Salary $18.50/hour and higher, depending on job responsibilities and qualifications.
- Overall responsibility for program schedule and general administration of the day camp program.
- Supervises staff within camp program, including Senior Counselors, Junior Counselors, and LITs.
- Oversees or implements camp programs, including undernights, field trips, and special events.
- Communicates with parents, as necessary.
Other Summer 2025 Positions

Para-Educators: Must be 19 years of age or older. $15.50-17.50/hour based on qualifications. Preference to those with education or experience in working with youth with special needs. Responsibilities: Work with youth with developmental or special needs to modify or adapt camp experiences. With assistance, develop goals and document progress.
Before and After-Care Staff: Must be 16 or older. Prefer staff 18 years of age or older. $13.50-17.50 per hour based on qualifications. Provides programming and supervises youth before and after camp. (7-9 a.m. and 3:30-6 p.m.) Can be combined with other positions.
Archery Specialist: Must be 19 years of age or older. $15.50-17.50/hour based on qualifications. Sets up and teaches archery skill sessions for campers. Creatively makes archery a fun experience for campers. Will be required to have Archery certification or complete certification training.
Art Specialist: Prefer those 19 years of age or older. $15.50-17.50/hour based on qualifications. Teaches art skills and creates hands-on Art projects for groups of elementary and middle school-aged campers. Plans and conducts weekly sessions.
STEM Specialist: Prefer those 19 years of age or older. $15.50-17.50/hour based on qualifications. Teaches STEM concepts and creates hands-on STEM projects for elementary and middle school-aged campers. Plans and conducts weekly sessions.
Culinary Camp Chef: Must be 21 years of age or older. Salary based on qualifications. Prepares a curriculum of recipes and culinary instruction for each week of Culinary Camp. Uses safe food handling practices as well as Kosher guidelines. Hours roughly 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Weekly Camp sessions June 9 – August 1, Monday through Friday. Preparation ahead of the start of Culinary Camp will also be required.
Camp Nurse: Preference to those with valid Kansas State Registered Nurse license. Salary based on qualifications. Oversees camp health care and health regulations with child care licensing and accreditation. Dispenses medications, responds to first aid, maintains online health care files. Preference to those available to work May 27 – August 8.
Substitute Staff: Must be 16 years of age or older. $11-14/hour based on qualifications. Work with groups of youth in leading camp programs. Hours vary according to the need.
J Camp Staff General Physical Requirements – Depending on Position
- Frequent standing, fast paced walking, lifting/carrying up to 20lbs, talking, hearing, and regularly getting up and down from seated position.
- Occasional sitting, pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, climbing stairs, playing sports with children, interacting with children in the pool.
- Occasional exposure to a generally loud environment including children and adult voices indoors and outdoors, and music speakers.
