SUMMARY:
The 3 rd and 4 th grade unit leader will supervise our Tzofim Bet unit which consists of 6 to 8 groups of 12 to 18 campers as well as 12 to 20 counselors. The unit head is responsible for communicating with their staff and making sure each bunk has what they need to succeed. This role will also be responsible for campers on field trips and help with the logistics of campers signing up for elective choice activities. This role sits on our camp leadership team and participates in leadership meetings, pool/lunch coverage and will have carpool responsibilities.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Involvement in the planning and implementation of in person trainings provided by J Day Camp. (Including Orientation)
- During orientation week and throughout the summer provide insight, training and support to counselors
- Work with the camper support team on managing behaviors and creating behavior charts
- Assist in staff assignments
- Play a role in daily transportation at camp.
- Organize & lead weekly electives choice activities.
- Lead weekly field trips for 3 rd and 4 th grade
- Serve as main contact for 3 rd and 4 th grade parents regarding all aspects of camp
- Serve on the overall J Camps Leadership team
- Attend and participate in administrative meetings as scheduled
- Evaluate counselor's performances mid-point and at the conclusion of each session; in writing and verbally to the Assistant Director and Director
- Abide by and enforce all camp policies
WHO YOU ARE:
- Experience at summer camp or similar environment preferred.
- Understanding of the developmental needs of youth.
- Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner.
- Experience supervising staff
- Willingness to follow / give directions and work as a team member.
- Strong leadership and organization skills
- Willingness to work as a part of a team.
- Willingness to ask for assistance when needed or desired.
- Comfortable working in an outdoor setting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Over 21 years of age
- Bachelor’s in education or a related field is preferred
- Available for the whole summer
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment may be fast paced and requires high energy and interaction with others. The employee may also be required to frequently be on their feet for periods of time and in the outdoor elements.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
