Position Summary:
The Community Associate for Manhattan and Special Projects is an exciting role for a passionate, detail-oriented professional ready to manage diverse projects and community-wide events. As part of UJA's Community Mobilizers team, you will collaborate with local Jewish communities and leaders across NYC, Westchester and Long Island to address needs, encourage grassroots participation, and drive impactful initiatives. UJA currently has Community Mobilizers in Long Island, Westchester, Brooklyn, and Queens, forming a responsive, New York-wide team committed to cultivating the power of community.
In this role, you’ll play a key role in the implementation of high-visibility projects across UJA’s full catchment area (NYC, Westchester and Long Island), including public programs that mobilize large swaths of the Jewish community. This could include Israel programs or community rallies, community wide Jewish events, UJA’s delegation in the Celebrate Israel Parade, volunteer events, community holiday celebrations or commemorations and crisis response initiative. You will also help execute strategic community relations initiatives, such as organizing community meetings with influential New Yorkers, convenings/trainings for Jewish non-profit professionals, and programs for local interfaith clergy counsels etc.
Alongside these NY-wide initiatives, the Community Associate will assist with programs in Manhattan and provide additional support to mobilizers for initiatives in specific regions as needed.
Major Responsibilities:
- Project Management for Community Events: Coordinate the successful implementation of large-scale community events across NYC, Westchester and Long Island.
- Support Days of Service: Assist in planning and execution of UJA-Federation’s major volunteer days (1-3 per year, including MLK Day).
- Facilitate Strategic Intergroup Initiatives: Help implement intergroup or community relations programs, fostering understanding between diverse communities.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Experience: Minimum of four years in project or program coordination, event implementation, or a related field.
- Strong Project and Detail Orientation: Demonstrated skills in project management, organization, and attention to detail.
- Problem-Solving and Continuous Learning Skills: Ability to proactively address challenges, ensuring smooth event and project execution. Also able to draw insights from past projects and apply lessons learned to enhance the success of future initiatives
- Community Knowledge: Familiarity with the New York Jewish community landscape and its diversity.
- Strong Communication: Proficient in written and verbal communication.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Skilled in engaging respectfully with people from various religious, cultural, socioeconomic, and life backgrounds, both within and beyond the Jewish community.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this role is $65,000-$70,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications listed above.
