This role will be scheduled from 8:30am – 4:30pm during regularly scheduled work hours, Monday – Friday, starting immediately and running through June 4th, 2025.
General schedule as well as any schedule adjustments will be provided in advance and may be adjusted for school operations and closures.
The Staenberg-Loup JCC Early Learning School (ELS) is looking for a qualified 1:1 student support aide to facilitate a safe and fun learning environment for a toddler age (2-3 years) student with severe food allergies in a classroom setting.
In this role, you will support a student in their classroom and work with the classroom teachers as they develop, implement, and provide a quality educational program that reflects the goals of our school. This role will primarily aid in the support of a student with unique health needs to facilitate their participation in the classroom.
Specifically, this role will be responsible for managing student allergic reactions and minimizing potential allergen exposures in the classroom on an ongoing basis. Additionally, this role will not be providing direct 1-on-1 teaching but will be participating, alongside of the student in the daily activities and flow of the classroom, as planned by the Classroom Teachers.
Role And Responsibilities
- Provides individualized support to one student, as outlined in their Individual care plan, allergy agreement, etc. - including supporting health concerns and daily living activities (handwashing, diaper changing, sweeping the floor, and wiping tables throughout the day to ensure a clean space and minimize possible allergens etc.)
- Provides crisis intervention as needed, including but not limited to, the administration of epinephrine (EpiPen), child abuse reporting, and/or first aid, and following the exiting protocol established by the ELS
- Ensures safe classroom and learning environment by following safety rules and expectations as needed.
- Supports classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of reinforcing classroom objectives and helping the student(s) meet their learning goals
- Supports with daily living procedures such as toileting, diapering, feeding, and personal hygiene as needed.
- Implements student accommodations and modifications as outlined in their care plan, allergy agreements, etc. as needed
- In the event of student absence, this position may be asked to support other operations of the ELS, as needed
- Participates in the preparation, setup, serving, and clean-up of meals and snacks. Distributes clearly labeled food substitutions to classrooms for allergies/special diet
- Assist other students in hygiene needs and daily activities (such as handwashing) to minimize any possible exposures to allergens in the classroom
- Notifies the supervisor and the ELS Director of any concerns, as it relates to the student’s health and wellness with regard to the allergy agreement and individual care plan
- Other duties as assigned
Other Duties/Responsibilities Required
- Takes directions from classroom staff regarding classroom organization and management, to ensure that the classroom is safe, clean, and orderly
- Comply with all Colorado State Licensing regulations for compliance as well as assigned trainings
- Participates in required training, programs, workshops, and meetings regarding first aid/CPR, universal precautions, food safety, and other topics relating to the classroom, early childhood development, and classroom environments
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Must hold active certifications in CPR & First Aid, as well complete all state required Medication Administration Trainings per Colorado State Licensing Regulations.
- Must meet the requirements for a non-lead qualified classroom support teacher as required by Colorado State Licensing Regulations
- Ability to interact effectively as a team member, classroom staff, and parents.
- Ability to remain calm in a crisis situation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within early childhood settings
- Experience with implementation of IEP / 504 plans
- Experience with food allergies and supporting diverse student needs
- RBT (Registered Behavioral Technician) experience and certification preferred
Physical/Mental Requirements (ADA Compliance)
- Mental requirements include, but are not limited to, the ability to concentrate, take initiative, cope with stress, adapt to and stay alert in a business environment.
- In order to perform the essential duties of the job, the employee must be able to speak, hear, see and walk more than 2 miles each day
- Standing and sitting on the floor for long periods of time
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
