The Mizel Arts & Culture Center (MACC) at the J is seeking an Assistant Program Director to oversee basic operations of the box office, concessions, and Front of House for annual arts center programs. This position is a key role in assisting Mizel staff in support of the Denver Jewish Film Festival (DJFF), JAAMM (Jewish Arts, Authors, Movies, and Music) Festival, Wolf Theatre Academy (WTA), other Mizel cultural programming, and rental activities in two theatres. Weekend and evening hours are often required.
Role And Responsibilities
- This Position will manage the calendar of the Mizel Executive Director.
- Assist Executive Director in development of MACC as needed.
- Manage the Box Office for MACC, including supervision, hiring, and staff management as needed by partnering with the Program Director and Human Resources Department
- Attending performances, rentals, and other cultural & engagement events to serve as either front of house and box office manager on duty, or concessions lead
- Collaborates with Executive Director and Program Director to oversee and support coordination and collaboration across all programs relating to art, culture, and community
- Assist the Mizel Program Director in creating a season across all programs in the Mizel Arts and Culture Center, including hiring, picking shows for WTA and Denver Children’s Theater (DCT)
- Assist in securing films for MACC programming as needed
- Coordinates programing across departments to meet SCFD funding reporting requirements.
- Manage all Patron Services functions, including but not limited to: ticketing set-up and sales, front-of-house management, concessions and retail sales, and general patron support/satisfaction
- Includes ordering and inventory of concessions stock and supplies, and building partnerships for concessions and retail sales and managing Point-Of-Sale
- Includes pulling and building event reports for ticket sales and audience data
- Includes building and distributing audience satisfaction surveys, processing received data as needed.
- Hire and manage front-of-house over-hire staff as needed, working within approved budget
- Oversees MACC volunteer program
- Schedules and trains ushers, ticket-scanners, and program-specific support
- Creates volunteer appreciation events
- Create and build internal and external promotional materials, with support from JCC Denver Marketing, including playbills, flyers, and social media posts
- Review content and support construction of primary MACC Programming (Denver Jewish Film Festival, JAAMM, WTA, DCT, and ReelAbilities)
- Manage registration, student logistics, and supplies, for Mizel and Wolf Theatre Academy classes and programs, working alongside JCC Registrar
- Support Production Manager in implementation of external rentals as needed
- Acting as Manager-On-Duty for events as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school diploma
- Minimum of two years’ work experience
- Excellent customer service skills and experience; affable, outgoing personality
- Basic computer proficiency (esp. MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Comfortable with kids, parents, artists, and patrons
- Familiarity with arts environment
- Supervisory experience
- Great multitasker with a fine attention to detail, hard-working and self-motivated
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher (preferably in any arts field or arts administration)
- Box Office Management experience (experience with box office software management)
- TIPS Certification
- First-Aid Certification
- Arts organization experience

The position requires the candidate to sit, stand and move around for prolonged hours in both a theatre and/or office environment. While performing duties, the candidate is occasionally required to stand, walk use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Candidate must occasionally lift and or/move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Working conditions may include being in an open (shared) cubicle or workspace.

The JCC contributes a portion of medical, dental, and vision plan premiums. The JCC proudly pays for 100% of Basic Life Insurance, AD&D, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability coverage for benefits eligible employees. We also provide additional voluntary benefit plans.
The JCC has a 401(K) Plan available for elective deferral contributions for employees over 21 years of age with no waiting period. The JCC matches 50% of employee contributions, up to 3%, on a 5-year vesting schedule.
Paid Time Off is a day-one benefit, accrued based on years of service and in compliance with Colorado Health Families & Workplaces Act. First-year, benefits-eligible employees may accrue up to 120 hours of Paid Time Off in their first year of service.
