PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Director of Digital Transformation will lead an organization-wide digital transformation initiative, driving the strategic implementation of technology to enhance programmatic impact. The Director will be responsible for aligning business strategy with digital, IT, and data solutions; managing the modernization of ADL's data architecture, including upgrades to CRM technology; and developing innovative digital products to enhance ADL's impact and efficiency. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, project management and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong business background, foundation in technology, and strategic mindset that enables them to think holistically about leveraging technology, including generative AI, to further ADL’s mission.
Responsibilities
Primary:
- Lead and manage a multi-year digital transformation initiative, including strategy development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance.
- Oversee the modernization and adoption of ADL's data architecture, directing the implementation of a unified data platform leveraging advanced technologies including generative AI
- Manage the adoption of new or improved CRM capabilities, collaborating with IT and across the organization to ensure effective implementation of Salesforce capabilities and advanced customer engagement features.
- Identify high-impact opportunities where technology can enhance programmatic impact and efficiency
- Guide the development of digital products and solutions to advance business goals
- Manage project phasing, budget, and resource needs and distribution throughout the project lifecycle.
- Act as a bridge between IT and programmatic teams, ensuring technology solutions meet the needs of all stakeholders, collaborating closely with the VP and Information Technology team.
- Design and implement comprehensive change management strategies to ensure smooth adoption and stakeholder engagement throughout the transformation process.
- Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies, establish and monitor KPIs, and regularly brief senior leadership on project progress.
Secondary:
- Collaborate with external vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of new systems and processes
- Develop and implement training programs to ensure staff adoption of new technologies and processes
- Partner with the development team on fundraising strategies related to the digital transformation initiative
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization
- Serve as an internal consultant and thought leader on digital transformation and technology innovation
Qualifications
Skills:
- Experience designing and implementing digital strategies and solutions to drive organizational impact and efficiency
- Ability to think strategically about the role of technology in achieving business goals
- Solid understanding of IT systems, including data architecture, cloud technologies, and marketing technology stacks
- Proficiency in emerging technologies, including AI, with the ability to identify opportunities for digital enhancements to advance ADL’s mission and strategic objectives
- Familiarity with Salesforce, particularly Nonprofit Cloud, Marketing Cloud, and marketing automation tools preferred
- Excellent program and project management skills with the ability to manage complex, multi-year initiatives
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences, align diverse stakeholders across the organization, and guide organizations through significant technological and procedural shifts
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong work ethic and ability to drive initiatives to achieve results

Work Experience:
- The ideal candidate has significant years of experience with mix of technology and business-focused positions, with substantive years’ experience dedicated to digital and tech strategy and transformation.
- Demonstrated success in implementing large-scale digital transformation projects
- Experience working collaboratively with IT, programmatic and operational departments to align digital solutions with business goals
- Experience managing complex projects, budgets and resources
- Nonprofit sector experience preferred
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience.
- Master's degree in a relevant field or MBA preferred
- Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, Salesforce, cloud platforms) are a plus
Compensation:
- This position has a salary range up to $180,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
