Principal Responsibilities:
The Kindergarten Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in creating a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for kindergarten-aged children. The Assistant Teacher fosters a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere, encourages students' growth in social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development, and helps implement daily lessons, activities, and routines.
Classroom Support:
- Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing curriculum aligned with early childhood education standards and goals.
- Prepare materials and set up activities to support learning objectives.
- Assist and implement classroom projects.
- Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and transitions.
- Provide individualized support to students to meet their learning needs and encourage independence.
Child Engagement:
- Foster a warm and inclusive classroom culture where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to learn.
- Support children's social-emotional development by modeling positive interactions and conflict resolution strategies.
- Observe and document children's behavior and progress to help inform instructional strategies.
Classroom Management:
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
- Reinforce classroom rules and expectations to support a positive learning atmosphere.
- Address and redirect challenging behaviors in a constructive and consistent manner.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with the Lead Teacher to ensure a cohesive and effective learning environment.
- Communicate regularly with the teaching team and administrative staff regarding classroom needs and concerns.
- Build positive relationships with families and provide updates on children's experiences and progress as needed.
Professional Development:
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Stay informed of best practices and developments in early childhood education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent; preference for coursework in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Experience working with young children in a school, daycare, or similar setting.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, flexibility, and a genuine passion for working with children.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Certifications:
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Background check and clearances required by state and local regulations.
